Curriculum

Our School Curriculum

At the Primary School of St Mary and St Martin, we believe in developing the whole child through our teaching.  We aim to equip our children with the skills, knowledge and understanding to be able to make informed choices about all the important things in their lives.

We want them to have high quality learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom, all of which lead to a high level of achievement in all sort of areas. We want the learning to be challenging, exciting and fun for everyone. We aspire to embed high expectations that will help our children to lead happy and rewarding lives, this will help them to have high aspirations and ambitions for their future.

We intend to provide a progressive and knowledge rich curriculum that allows children to grow both in independence, and confidence. The curriculum is broad and balanced and allows all to access it and achieve. We aspire to deliver an ambitious and enriching curriculum to all learners, including children with special needs in line with the Equality act 2010 and the Special Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.

At our school, we encourage children to ask questions, to think critically and challenge themselves.  Each term we have topics within our curriculum and there are linked questions that allow the children to apply their knowledge.

Curriculum planning strategies are used to allow pupils to remember more and think more which enables greater progress.  Adaptations allow all children to be given opportunities to think and grasp concepts quickly and also allows scaffolding and interventions to ensure all children make progress.

We want our pupils to enjoy their learning and become lifelong learners by developing skills such as communication, resilience and motivation. We want our children to develop a sense of curiosity, to ask questions and above all to enjoy and thrive.

Our Christian values underpin everything we do.
