Happy Friday!
We've had our first full week in school and what a wonderful week it's been. Our focus topic has been Who Am I? We have each painted a self-portrait to put on our gallery display and they have loved spotting their own and their friends faces on the wall. We have also been sharing about our families and the special people who look after us.
Some activities we've enjoyed this week have been drawing our families outside with chalk and in paint, we've been using the tools and cutters to create different people in the playdough and there's been lots of family roleplay going on in the home corner.
Reception have started Monster Phonics this week! We have learned our first 4 sounds and have started to use them to blend and read some simple words as a class. Our phonics lessons are fun and active; we love the monsters, on each day there is a song, and we have actions to go along with all the different sounds. Ask them to show you them for s, a, t and p!
They will be getting their very first reading book on Monday.
In maths, our current topic is "Match, sort and compare". We have been looking at a range of items and thinking about what makes them similar or different, with a big focus on explaining our thoughts and answers. An easy way to practice this is by grabbing a pile of lego, buttons, beads etc and finding different ways to group them. Maybe you are grouping all the blue pieces, or choosing all the big ones? Can you make a group and see if they can guess how you have chosen to sort them.
A big well done to Lottie for getting the Gold Award this week, and have a fantastic weekend everyone! :)
