The Primary School of St Mary and St MartinLet your light shine – Matthew 5:16

W/c 12.10.26

We have made it to half term! The first term is usually a very busy one and this year has been no different, although it has been a very wonderful start.

We have spent this week exploring Autumn some more; we have been on an Autumn hunt outside to find the different signs of the season, we have been painting some lovely Autumnal trees after thinking carefully about what colours we'd need, and have used forks to create some spikey hedgehog pictures too. The children have really enjoyed using hammers to smack some pegs into a big pumpkin throughout the week, then we cut it open today to explore what they looked like inside.

Our story for Drawing club this week was The Leaf Thief and we enjoyed it so much, that on one of our writing days I had every reception child sat down with their book because they all asked to take part!

We all had a fantastic time at the play park on Thursday afternoon as a special end of term treat and it was a very lovely finish to a very lovely term.

Over the half term break, please keep reading as often as you can. I have updated everyone's pencil cases with all of our new sounds and high frequency words and I have also added some CVC picture cards. I will post a write up of the different ways you can use these within the phonics area of the class page.

We have been working very hard on our letter formation; we do handwriting every day in the afternoons alongside any practice within the phonics lessons themselves and our drawing club sessions. But getting the hang of all the many sounds is a huge task, so please have a go and do some over the break also. Feel free to upload any pictures onto Tapestry to show me any writing they are proud of! To help you support them with correct formation, I will be uploading the recent sound modelling videos onto the phonics area within the next couple of days.

A great big well done to Ramsay for getting the Gold Award this week, and also well done to Hattie who has received the Value award this term, which is Resilience! I hope you all enjoy a very well deserved break, and we will see you all in November! :)
