The Primary School of St Mary and St MartinLet your light shine – Matthew 5:16

Happy Friday!

This week, we had a very exciting day on Monday. We received a mysterious package, which contained some flour which The Little Red Hen had milled! She also gave us her story and a cuddly hen for our reading area. We then spent the afternoon doing lots of baking; we followed her instructions and all made our own bread rolls. We had them warm with oodles of butter for our afternoon snack.

We've also had lots of fun bringing Autumn inside and using pipes to create tracks for conker rolling, have had lots of fun in the farm small world, and of course it was our Harvest Service at church. For those of you who came, I'm sure you will agree that they all did FANTASTIC singing and I'm very proud of them. We have celebrated with popcorn and biscuits this afternoon.

In maths, we have split our learning and have looked at 1 more and 1 less in the first half of our week, and finished the week by exploring some shapes; focusing on circles and triangles. You can practice both these skills easily while out and about; when you see little groups of items (4 biscuits on your plate) ask if they can quickly tell you 1 more or less than that number and use your fingers to check the answer if needed. Similarly, while out, have a look for any circles or triangles you might spot such as road signs, in shops etc. We've been making sure to repeat relevant vocabulary to describe shapes, using sides and corners for triangles and talking about how circles are round with none of these features.

Some upcoming reminders for next week -

Monday - School photos this morning!

Also, on Friday is the Macmillan Coffee afternoon between 2 and 4 pm.

A big well done to Hattie for getting the Gold Award this week, and have a wonderful weekend everyone :)
