The Primary School of St Mary and St MartinLet your light shine – Matthew 5:16

WC 7th September 2026

In English this week, the children have been working hard on creating story maps to help them retell and internalise our writing model, The Game. They have brought a copy of their story map home, and I am sure they would love to retell the story to you! Next week, we will continue to explore the grammatical features of the text and work on how to use these effectively in our own writing.

In maths, the children have continued to work hard on place value, developing their confidence and understanding. We will continue with our place value work next week.

It was lovely to meet so many of you at our Class Parent Meeting this week. If you were unable to attend, I have attached the PowerPoint to this weekly update so that you can catch up on the information shared.

Awards

A huge well done to Elijah, who received our Gold Award this week, and to Miles, who received our Magnificent Manners Award. We are very proud of them both, as I know you will be too!

Reading

Please ensure that your child reads at least three times each week and that each read is recorded in their planner. Reading is an important part of your child’s homework and planners will be checked each Friday.

Key Dates and Reminders

  • 14th September – BPBP Coffee Morning at 9am in the School Hall.

  • PE will take place on Thursday afternoons. Please ensure that children bring their PE kit to school on Monday. Kits will be sent home again on Friday.

  • Homework and spellings have been handed out today and are due back in school on Friday.

If you have any questions or messages, please write a note in your child’s planner and ask them to hand it directly to me so that I can be sure to see it.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday!

Mrs Green
