Happy Friday!
We have had a really exciting first week of Autumn 2. We've been enjoying Firework night activities; drawing chalk fireworks on black paper, we made big play marshmallows to have a camp fire roleplay outside and of course we had our afternoon of science where we explored chemical reactions with coke/mentos and bicarb of soda/vinegar.
We finished this week by having Officer Vyse in today, who let us explore lots of equipment and uniform in preparation for our Remembrance next week. He said that our class did better listening and commando crawling than his current recruits at work!
We have also started preparing for our Nativity performance next month. All of the children have been given their roles and we've really been enjoying the songs so far; they're very catchy!
In phonics, we've upped the writing practice. We have started to do some very small sentences to begin working on putting more than single words down (e.g. a big cat) and have been focusing on making sure our writing starts at the top left so we have space to move along. Trying to make our letters small enough to keep them between the lines is another focus. Any writing practice (with pre-cursive formation) at home is always appreciated alongside their reading.
We've met a lot of new HFW this week also and I have popped a Roll and Read game into everyone's book bags for at home. HFW are those words we'd like the children to eventually recognise by sight which will make their reading so much more fluent.
In maths, we've had another week focusing on the composition of 5 and how it is made. Knowing the number bonds to 5 by memory (2+3, 4+1, etc) is one of the end of year goals that children are expected to know and as such we will be practicing them frequently to support this. We've been playing games to learn them and a favourite has been to throw 5 bean bags at a hoop, then see how many are inside and how many are out. 2 in the hoop and 3 outside gives us the bond 2+3=5. Can they do this until you've found all the different bonds? You could practice this at home yourselves :)
Next week:
Tuesday - PE kits again please for yoga.
Weds and Thurs - Parent's meetings.
Due to M&M club being run in our classroom, I will be holding our meetings in the Explorers room (right next to the hall).
Friday - Children in Need! Children can come in non-uniform/Pudsey clothing.
A big well done to Millie for getting the Gold Award, and have a wonderful weekend everyone :)
